The Golf Club at Briar's Creek

The Golf Club at Briar’s Creek
This site consisted initially of over 900 acres of agricultural land, a young loblolly pine plantation, and freshwater, brackish, and salt water wetlands. The brackish and salt marshes are contiguous wetlands associated with Briar’s Creek and the Kiawah River. The Rees Jones-designed 18-hole golf course located in Johns Island, Charleston County, South Carolina, embraces the charm of the Carolina lowcounty with stately oaks and pines, meandering rivers, creeks, and broad salt water estuaries.   There are over 101 acres of undisturbed wetlands throughout the course property, as well as 1.5 acres of created marsh.  These wetlands are surrounded by 24.6 acres of wetland buffer along with 23.8 acres of critical areas buffer to protect sensitive areas.  In addition to preserved wetlands, there are over 200 acres of designated wildlife habitat as part of the permanent naturalization plan.  Over 60 acres of retention ponds were constructed to filter drainage and serve as wildlife habitat.  You can learn more about the first certified Audubon Silver Signature Cooperative Sanctuary in South Carolina by going to its website at www.briarscreek.com.
